California Vacation Day 3

Today the pace slowed a bit, Lady Awesome and Scarlett relaxed a bit in the morning and Athena and Mr. Awesome travelled across Roseville for Dutch Brothers and visited A-1 comics.  As a comic lover, it made me smile when Athena picked the comic she wanted. Originally she picked up a Batman but put it back when she saw the amount of violence in the issue. We went to the all ages section and she picked up a DC Superheroes issue with Wonder Woman on the cover. I picked up some Dark Horse Conan issues I needed.

We met back at the hotel and brought the kids to grandpa’s house. With all of my ancestors passed on, it is wonderful that the wiggles have so many on their mother’s side. They get to experience the joy of grandparents.

Lady and Mr. Awesome then joined Lady’s sister Tiffany and a friend for brunch, we dined at Bennett’s in Roseville. I had the steak and bacon tacos, which is a wonderful dish, why have I never put this combo together in a taco? Amazing.

Our brunch lasted for hours as we chatted and caught up, while we told stories and jokes. The laughter echoed off the walls around us.

We then went into Sacramento with Tiffany, shopping at more stores and visiting Sac’s A-1 Comics. I was able to pick up some more Key Conan issues from Marvel’s classic 1970’s run. The elusive Conan #23 was no where to be found this trip.

When we arrived back in Roseville we picked up the Wiggles and brought them to Royer Park with their cousins in tow. While they played I went around photographing the park. 

Roseville High was having their Homecoming and as I was doing my 360 photographing a group of the high school students began asking me questions about my camera. They then poses for me to take some photos and I added a couple to Facebook for them to check out.

The Wiggles are staying with their cousins and the Teens are with their Dad, giving Lady Awesome and I some much needed us time.

Tomorrow we head back toward Idaho, visiting Grandma one last time before we go.

Fishing Under the Bridge

Today I took a couple of young men fishing.  Myself, I am not a fisherman at all, but I do enjoy sitting next to the river as much as they do. We pulled off Middleton Road just south of the Boise River. A small, well-beaten down trail led to the water’s edge. The concrete bridge sat next to an old wooden train bridge, no longer used and overtaken by the surrounding growth of plant life.  The concrete bridge was covered in spray painted grefetti, it blended in a hodgepodge of numerous colors with long elongated letters or crisp precise designs.  There was a large sand covered beach running along under the bridge, with a waterfront mini beach on each side. The guys reached picked a side and cast out. I snapped a few pictures for Facebook and TikTok and settled into a chair, just enjoying the 75 degree fall afternoon. California Trip Day 2

We woke early on Day two of our trip. We wanted to get to Rough and Ready, California as early as week could. Grandma lives there and we wanted to visit.  Going over the mountains that divide Nevada and California is always a treat. The two hour trip was amazing. I drove down Insterstate 80 to Colefax and then through Grass Valley and over to Rough and Ready. I always giggle at the name of the town, a little dirty in my opinion. A great place for a grandma to live. Rough and Ready was named after the Rough and Ready Mining Company in the mid 1800. The post office asked them to pick either Rough or Ready, but they refused and the name stuck. After visiting with Grandma we decided to Grass Valley. Grass Valley was a very cool town with a bustling downtown area. There are multiple shops along the roadways. We stopped at a couple of clothing stops, a comic shop and a couple antique shops. Cleo’s Ferry Museum

 One of the best, but lesser known, attractions in the greater Boise Valley, is Cleo’s Ferry Museum. The Museum and Nature trail is  wonder to visit. Located along the Snake River just outside of Melba, Idaho rests this wonderful fairy trail. Within its boards you will encounter live peacocks, and have the chance to encounter other wild life, such as deer, beaver, foxes, snakes and more. The park itself is a wonderful collection of statues, artwork, signage, and sitting areas to enjoy the atmosphere. This has been a family favorite of ours for the better part of thirty years.
